Ibram Gaunt is a man in his early 40s, though he's heavily scarred in a way that seems to age him a bit. He's former military, though exactly where he was posted or who he fought for prior to becoming part of the church is anyone's guess. What is known is that he become a member of the Executors after joining the Church, and has demonstrated an incredible capacity for killing demons of all sorts the most notable being a monster known as Heritor Asphodel, creator of the Woe Machines some 10 years ago. He has been entrusted with the scripture the Sword of St Sondar, which he has most recently used to strike down Asphodel, though his use of it is constrained by the hierarchy of the church. Recently, to his dismay, he was appointed the Assembly of the Eighth Sacrament, and has been assigned as the advisor for the most recent grail war, which has delayed his long-awaited retirement in the UK.
Gaunt is a well-read, philosophical man who has a great deal of knowledge both ecclesiastical and mundane, and is equally at home in a library, a church, or a battlefield, still fairly slender from years of field work, fighting, and extremely difficult training. He is a fairly stern hunter of heretics, but he is also known for compassion, understanding, and at times even forgiveness, though he also has a ruthless streak when it comes to demons or vampires, and he won't necessarily wait to defeat his often far more physically powerful foes in an ambush or through trickery.
His motivations as an overseer are fairly simple. Make sure the Grail War doesn't get out of control, keep civilian casualties minimized or nonexistent, and to protect any Magi who withdraw after casting away their command spells.
